Similarly, these sessions also provide the students with a regular and timetabled opportunity to feedback to the course leaders any concerns they might have or any ideas they would like to put forward. This will enable the course leaders to monitor client satisfaction and welfare issues and take timely and appropriate action. The minutes will be recorded and action points identified which can be checked off as completed. These meetings will allow course leaders to feedback information and progress reports to parents on a regular basis. During the first month of the programme these sessions are of great importance in assisting students to settle in to life in England and the changes they may have faced. They also enable an informal meeting of other students to develop friendships and camaraderie amongst the team.

The centre is fully equipped with state of the art training and weight machines, along with a steam room, sauna and an athletics track. Each student, after initial assessment in week one, will be set a Personal Fitness Programme to develop their aerobic fitness and stamina along with strength and endurance. English football is a very physical and demanding game and we expect all students to be fully focused and self driven regarding personal improvement in fitness and all aspects of the game. Each week students will receive a personal fitness tutorial, individually shaped to fit personal needs, setting weekly and monthly targets to develop the players’ fitness. These sessions will be conducted with the course leader and facility fitness staff to ensure maximum benefit. Throughout the week students will have several opportunities to work on their personal fitness plan. These will be monitored by staff to ensure efficient use of time. During these sessions throughout the week a physiotherapist will be on hand, at selected requested times, to advise and assist on any injuries students may have.

Facility Health & Fitness Centre Access Times

English Football/Culture seminars
Throughout the programme, all Students will take part in weekly seminars relating to English football, international football and English culture. A representative will guide the young people, firstly in the way of English life and the importance of sport, recreation and specifically football. Students will learn about the history of the game in England, where it all started from, how the game developed into the global game as it is recognised today and the various rule changes over the years.

As part of these sessions the students will learn about the theory behind the tactics and the rules of association football, having the opportunity to take control of games amongst their peers.

These sessions give the students an understanding of the game from various angles, not just as a player, but spectator, manager, coach, referee and club owner. We feel it is important for students to understand and view the game from all these angles to be able to respect the game from a variety of points of view.

Fitness Training/Speed, Agility, Quickness
Each week the students will be put through their paces in the early week fitness sessions. These sessions will vary from endurance, strength, conditioning and technical movements associated with the game. All students are expected to use these sessions to improve fitness for the game and to provide ideas along with them being a learning tool for the personal fitness sessions.

The sessions will include footwork and developing quick feet without the ball, co-ordination and awareness, anaerobic speed burst movements of the game and general aerobic fitness. During these sessions students will be taught the safe practices of training to assist in injury prevention.

Each week the students will be timetabled for 2 hours to work on their assignments required to achieve the academic qualifications and give time to complete personal fitness logs and their training diary. These sessions will be supervised by our staff to ensure an efficient use of time.

During the first month of the programme, whilst the academic work is beginning, these sessions will provide essential guidance on the standard of work and presentation level of assignments required to achieve optimum grades. We feel that the underpinning of the physical aspect of the course with the academic classroom based activity is essential. These sessions are provided to enable support to each student on an individual bases and also provide time in the busy schedule to complete such assignments.

Football Coaching (Tactical)
Following on from the lectures regarding the English game, the group will be coached as a team. Each week they will prepare for the following week’s game and work on the tactical side of their game together, looking at shape, movement, set plays, defending and attacking as a team and phase of play, using examples from games they have been involved in and the professional game in England.

Competitive Fixtures
During the week the students will be involved in high-tempo technical training sessions and match play at the facility, or where possible, fixtures against college teams and local teams of appropriate standard. These fixtures will be dependant upon numbers of students and availability of players, therefore games or training sessions may be full 11-a-side, 7-a-side or 5-a-side. Each week these may vary to give a range of experiences to the students.

Cool Down Sessions
Following competitive fixtures and high tempo match play activity we believe a thorough cool down session is important to assist in injury prevention. These sessions will involve light training sessions or activities. During these sessions analysis of previous match play and coaching to look at improvement will be incorporated where necessary.

Stamina & Endurance Coaching
With the physical game in England the students will be coaching weekly to build on their stamina and endurance to maintain a high level of aerobic fitness. During these sessions and linking to the personal training plan, the students should develop fitness and strength to allow them to compete and increase their physical presence on the field.

Each student will meet with a senior staff member a minimum of twice per term. This will provide the perfect opportunity to obtain the specific and individual feedback necessary to ensure the welfare, safety and satisfaction off all students. This procedure will ensure a happy stay and continued improvement in all aspects of the course. These meetings will also provide course leaders the opportunity to set the students personal targets and feed information and progress reports back to parents.

Towards the end of the course these sessions will also provide the perfect opportunity by which to assist each individual player to progress from the course and assess the best ongoing career opportunities available to them.

Football Coaching (Technical)
Practice makes perfect with every individual player. Each week the students will be coached not only in the complexities of the game but also the simple elements of the game to ensure individual improvement and performance. Simple repetitive practices such as the professionals in the English game take part in, will be introduced to ensure the players are focused on all aspects of the game.

Our cricket studies program is an exciting initiative commencing in 2012 to follow on from the highly successful football studies program. The program is an innovative venture which provides an opportunity for international students to develop their cricketing skills whilst supporting their educational needs.

This program will build on the links we have with the international cricket community and the experience of our own staff who are fully qualified ECB coaches and sports educational tutors.

Monthly programs (28 days) are available commencing April 2012 through to October 2012 and a 6 month program from April – September will also be available. All the programs are open to both male and female students.

Costs
Prices start from just £4975* for the monthly program and from £25,495* for the 6 month program.

*Prices do not include airfares

Introduction
Based at a purpose built sports and leisure facility, the Cricket Studies program provides an integrated solution to all our young students’ needs. Our young international players enjoy the use of all the facilities available, including the fitness centre & gym, onsite Cafe Restaurant with wi-fi internet access, classrooms, I.T. Suite, synthetic and natural grass playing areas and athletics track. The sports education part of the program is also based at the venue utilising the classrooms and dedicated ICT Suite. The sports related qualification which compliments the program is accredited through the awarding body Edexcel and are offered through our accreditation as an approved training provider.

Accomodation
The program provides host family accomodation. All participants will be hosted by families that are carefully selected and checked regularly. This option includes half-board (breakfast and dinner) from Monday to Friday and full board at the weekend. Students eat a main meal with the family and are therefore brought naturally into contact with everyday english life. Cleaning and laundry services are included.

Education
With all students it is important not only to be focused on the practical cricket coaching element of the course, but also personal and academic progression. Each student is therefore automatically enrolled onto one of the BTEC Level 2 in Sport programs depending upon their length of stay*. “Sport Performance and Excellence” is the theme and links in with the practical element of the program.

* Students on the monthly program are enrolled for the accredited BTEC Level 2 unit ‘Practical Sport’, students staying for 2 or more months will study the BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Sport and 3 months the BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Sport. Students on the 6 month program will study the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Sport.

We feel that the academic component of the program is of great importance. The structure of the qualifications allows students to return on future programs and build up their qualification portfolio and over a period of time, to gain sufficient UCAS points to enter into University.

Successful completion will allow all students to progress with their education and give them an accredited qualification to take away with them. This allows students to remain flexible regarding possible future education choices and career paths in sport and leisure or cricket related industries. The course modules have also been carefully selected in order to compliment and reinforce all aspects of the cricket training, fitness and competitive match play program. (See FAQ for program modules)

The practical element of the cricket studies program has a number of components:

Cricket Coaching (Technical)
This part of the program is run at a local cricket club with both indoor and outdoor facilities using state of the art video and simulation analysis.

The program will commence with an initial assessment of all aspects of the players abilities in batting, bowling, fielding and fitness.

Using the data gathered, individual plans will be produced to allow players to develop and improve their skills and techniques in all areas.

The sessions will consist of both 1-2-1 and group coaching sessions and will include the usage of both simulation software and video analysis.

Simulation Software
The simulation software we use allows performance tracking and instant statistics and feedback for each individual. All the data is fed back through printed reports and is available through an on-line ‘Player Library’ to refer to again, and perform in-depth analysis on-line.

Video Analysis
Video analysis provides the opportunity to help improve the technical and biomechanical aspects of an individual players techniques. Instant feedback is provided both verbally and visually and includes the production of printed reports and CD-Roms.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Does the price include airfare?
A. No, airfire is not included in the prices quoted and you need to make your own arrangements to get here and home at the end of the program.

Q. How will I get to and from the airport?
A. We take care of that and will make the arrangements to collect you from the airport and take you back there at the end of the program.

Q. Where will I stay?
A. You will stay with a host family who we will have selected and will be carefully vetted.

Q. What does the cost cover?
A. As far as the program is concerned, everything is covered. This includes;

Transfer to and from the airport;

Host family costs

Cricket Coaching

Sports Education qualifications

Gym membership

Transport to and from venues associated with the program

Program tracksuit/training shirts

Q. What costs are NOT included?
A. The following is not included;

Your airfare to England and back home at the end of the program

Any Visa application costs

Transport costs from the host family home to and from the facility (Individual arrangements can be made with the host family regarding this)

Spending money

Any trips, entertainment or activites in your free time not associated with the program

Cricket equipment (Football equipment if you are on the football studies program)

Q. Do I need a visa?
A. Yes, you will need a student visa issued by the UK Border Agency. The qualifications you will study fulfill the student visa requirements as they are on the UK National Qualifications Framework.

Q. What qualifications will I take?
A. Everyone will take one of the BTEC Sports Studies qualifications which we provide through our accreditation with the UK Awarding Body, Edexcel.

Q. Are there different qualifications and levels of the BTEC Studies qualifications and which will/can I take?
A. Yes there are 2 levels (Level 2 and Level 3). If you are on the 6 month Cricket Studies program then you will take the Level 3 National Award. This is equivalent to 1 ‘A’ Level. You can return the following year and ‘upgrade’ the qualification to either the National Certificate (2 ‘A’ Levels), or the National Diploma (3 ‘A’ Levels). The National Diploma provides sufficient UCAS points to gain entry into an English university to study sports related degrees.

Q. What do the qualifications consist of?
A. The Level 2 qualifications comprise of up to 7 modules. The Level 3 qualifications range form 6 to 18 modules depending upon whether you are studying the National Award, Certificate or Diploma. The modules at both levels cover similiar topics but the Level 3 qualifications go into more depth.

A sample list of some of the Modules are as follows:

Health, Safety and Injury – Looks at the major risk factors that can effect an athlete and their performance i.e. sports injuries

The Body in Sport – Introduction into the structure and function of the human body and how it responds before, during and after exercise

Technical Skills and Tactical awareness for Sport- This module will aid the development of an individual’s technical skills and tactical awareness

Nutrition for Sports Performance – Assist learners to understand the nutritional demand’s and energy requirements of a selected sport

Fitness for Sports Performance – Looks at fitness requirements of a particular sport and how these are implemented in a training programme

Psychology for Sport performance – Introduction into how to mentally prepare for sporting activity

Q. I only want to come for the 1 month program. Will I still study the Level 3 qualification?
A. No, the single month programs do not have sufficient time to allow you to study Level 3 qualifications. The montly Cricket Studies program includes the BTEC Level 2 qualifications. For your first visit to us you will study the First Certificate. If you wish to return to a later monthly program, then this can be upgraded to either the Extended Certificate or the Level 2 Diploma.

Q. I want to come on the Cricket Studies program for more than 1 month but not the full 6 month program. Can I do this?
A. Yes, you can come for as many of the months as you want between April and September, but you need to be aware that this needs to be booked before you start your first month as it may not be possible to extend your stay if the following months are fully booked.

Q. I want to book onto one of the programs, what do I do next?
A. Contact us via email office@globalsportseducation.com providing us with your full name, date of birth and which program you wish to attend. We will then send you a registration form to complete and you need to pay a £500 non-returnable deposit as soon as possible thereafter to secure your place. Once your deposit has been made and your place secured, we will send you information regarding visa requirements and details regarding dates to pay the outstanding balance.

Q. You make reference in the forms to rugby, tennis, golf and ‘other sports’. Do you run programs in these sports as well?
A. We currently do not run programs in these sports. However we have had enquiries relating to these sports and we are able to run similar programs if there is sufficient interest from students.

Q. I have other questions which are not answered here, what do I do?
A. Send us an email to office@globalsportseducation.com and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
